Formentera, being the smallest island, is a true gem of the Mediterranean Sea and boasts landscapes that rival those of the Caribbean.
Ses Illetes Beaches
Without a doubt, the most famous beach in Formentera is Ses Illetes, which has been chosen as the best beach in Spain on several occasions. With a length of 1.5 kilometers, it is located on the Es Trucadors peninsula in the northern part of Formentera, and it is formed by a dune ecosystem.
Llevant Beach
The beaches of Ses Illetes and Llevant are often referred to as “The Twins” because they are two beaches very close to each other. You can take a short hike through the dunes of Ses Illetes and reach Llevant Beach on the other side of the Es Trucadors peninsula. This beach tends to have more wind, making it ideal for surfing.
The views from Llevant Beach towards the east coast of Formentera and its long stretch of sand make it a magnificent spot to enjoy any summer day.
Caló des Mort
This place is one of those that will leave you breathless. This secluded cove is part of the Migjorn Bay.
As you approach the beach, you’ll notice the color and the different shapes of the water. The famous oceanic seagrass, a marine plant found on the seabed of the Balearic Islands, creates this iconic turquoise blue color.
Additionally, it has a small cave that is perfect for snorkeling. You will find a wide variety of marine life there, as there are plenty of colorful fish swimming among the rocks. So, don’t forget your diving gear and a nice picnic for afterwards!
Surrender to the magic of this cove and immerse yourself in its natural pool.
Ses Platgetes
Located very close to the town of Sant Agustí, you will find a series of sandy beaches with some rocky areas in between. These beaches are calm and isolated from each other, and they have crystal-clear waters. You can comfortably go into the water and enjoy sunbathing.
The water is perfect for swimming and snorkeling, and of course for activities like kayaking or paddleboarding.
Cala Saona
This cove is 140 meters long and is considered one of the best beaches in Formentera. In fact, it is the longest and also one of the quietest beaches on the island. Furthermore, it’s not just a great beach for its crystal-clear water, but also offers magnificent views of its surroundings. Surrounded by the cliffs of Punta Rasa, it’s one of the best places to watch the sunset in Formentera, making it possibly the beach you’ll want to visit on your next day on the island.
