We will start our visit in Plaça de s'Esplanada to discover some of the most important buildings of the time: Els Quarters, built to prevent the accommodation of troops in private houses.
We will get to know the Town Hall, from the 17th century but renovated in 1789 with a French Baroque style. Did you know that the clock in its tower was imported from England around 1731?
We will also visit the Principal de la Guardia, used as barracks during British domination. And, of course, the Palau del Gobernador, where Governor Richard Kane moved the capital from Ciudadela to Mahón in 1722.
We will explore its streets and squares, visit Quintana Gran, the old market, Plaça Vella, or Hannover Street. We will also show you how the British presence can still be appreciated today in many architectural details, with elements such as sash windows or the so-called boínders (balconies enclosed with glass, which take their name from the English bow window).
