We will start the route in Plaza de Pontejos, we continue the route in the Plaza Mayor, where the largest Auto de Fe that the Inquisition held in the Villa y Corte took place in 1680. Along the way we will discover many of the places that were the scene of the activity of the Holy Office (such as the Convent of Santo Domingo, located in the square of the same name, the Convent of the Incarnation or the headquarters of its last Tribunal, in Torija Street).
We will also learn about some of the most murky events linked to the institution in Madrid, such as those that motivated the great Auto de Fe of 1632, and we will remember great historical figures whose fate was linked to that of the Inquisition: from the brilliant painter Diego de Velázquez to the obscure first Grand Inquisitor Tomás de Torquemada, the powerful Count Duke of Olivares or the controversial royal secretary Antonio Pérez.
How many people lost their lives because of the Inquisition? What kind of crimes were investigated by the Inquisitorial justice and what kind of punishments and tortures were applied? What was the purity of blood? What was the relationship between the Holy Office and the Hispanic Monarchy? Was there a real witch-hunt in the country? This tour sheds light on one of the darkest sides of Spanish history, helping to understand many of the historical, political, social and cultural phenomena that have defined us for centuries.

As early as the 12th century, the monks of Cluny were growing grapes on the banks of the Duero River to produce wine. The Ribera del Duero is in the heart of Castilla-León, the old land of castles. The subsoil of almost all the villages is practically hollow, with caves dug to store the wine, as they guarantee perfect conditions of humidity and temperature. Although many cellars have fallen into disuse, some have been recovered for visits or for wine production. Visiting an old wine cellar that has been in operation for centuries and drinking a glass of wine there is an unforgettable experience.

A small village nestled in the Sierra de Guadarrama was chosen in the mid-sixteenth century to house the Monastery of El Escorial, the greatest architectural legacy of Philip II. However, this building is only the best known attraction of what is possibly one of the most beautiful and interesting towns in Madrid: San Lorenzo de El Escorial, the dream paved with stories on which the powerful monarch erected his great refuge.
