The archaeological site of Muyil is located in the northern part of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve and served as a trade point during the times of the ancient Mayan civilization, connecting the Caribbean Sea with the mainland. Muyil is the ideal place to enjoy spectacular landscapes of lagoons and jungle, featuring astonishing Mayan temples like "El Castillo," which stands at 17 meters in height.
We will learn about the ecology of the jungle, wetlands, and the connection that exists between different ecosystems and species of flora and fauna.
From the archaeological zone, we will follow an interpretative path to learn about some of the most important trees in the area and visit some small cenotes. We will climb a wooden tower to the highest observation point in Sian Ka'an to admire the lush vegetation and freshwater wetlands.
Upon reaching the Muyil lagoon, we will have a light vegetarian lunch before boarding a boat to travel through two lagoons connected by a canal that has been in use for many centuries. Xlapak is the name of the building constructed at the beginning of a river, marking the start of a unique and unforgettable experience where we will float in crystal-clear water among mangroves and epiphytic plants such as orchids and bromeliads for about 30 minutes, listening to the singing of birds and the wind rustling through the grass.
After the floating experience, we will walk back along a wooden trail to find our boat, which will take us back to solid ground.
