Just south of Tulum lies the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, an area where underground freshwater rivers flow into the Caribbean. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the combination of ecosystems provides a living and breeding space for a wide variety of fish, mammals, birds, and reptiles, all interconnected by waterways.
On this tour, we will drive through dunes bordered by empty stretches of beach, lagoons, and lush coastal vegetation until we reach the Boca Paila Lagoon, approximately 8 km into the biosphere. We will then board a boat to visit the Boca Paila Bridge, a vital convergence point for many animals, where we'll have the opportunity to spot birds, crocodiles, and even manatees.
If weather permits, we'll have the chance to snorkel in the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef to marvel at colorful corals and fish (if sea conditions are not suitable for snorkeling, we will visit a fabulous open cenote instead).
We'll conclude with a typical Caribbean lunch on the beach and the opportunity to relax among palm trees and swim in the sea before heading back to the hotel.
This is a fantastic option for exploring the Sian Ka'an Biosphere in half a day, enjoying its unique landscapes while connecting with the Caribbean in this less-touristed area of the reserve.
