We will leave Barcelona towards the magical mountain of Montserrat. Famous for its peculiar morphology, its name comes from the Catalan Mont (mountain) and Serrat (serrated). World famous for its rocky landscape, the mountain of Montserrat was declared a National Park in 1987 to protect its cultural and natural heritage.
Follow your local guide and discover the history of the Monastery as well as its architectural style. Fall in love with the fusion of Gothic and Renaissance styles in its basilica and sanctuary. Discover that the importance of the place is due to the legend that narrates the miraculous appearance of a representation of the Virgin with the baby Jesus in one of the caves of the mountain, the Santa Cova. Visit this wooden carving, nowadays kept in the church of the monastery. The figure is popularly known as La Moreneta due to a reaction of the varnish with the passage of time, which has darkened it.
Montserrat is closely linked to spirituality. Today a community of 80 monks inhabit the place following the rule of Saint Benedict. For this reason, in addition to the main monastery, the mountain is home to a large number of churches and hermitages, some of which are now abandoned.
Your guided tour includes a tasting of excellent local liqueurs and a visit to the Audiovisual Space. After the guided tour you will have free time to admire the fabulous scenery and visit the market of agricultural and typical products of the area.
Reconnect with your guide and head towards Sitges. This fishing village is one of the most beautiful on the Catalan coast. Stroll through its narrow streets, along the beach and explore its great cultural offerings. You will have free time for lunch and shopping before returning to Barcelona.
