Archaeological Tour of Menorca
The Balearic Islands are known for their beautiful beaches and hidden coves, but were you aware of the existence of various archaeological sites? When you plan your next trip to Menorca, we recommend considering an archaeological tour of Menorca in your itinerary.
There’s nothing better than learning a bit about the place you’re going to visit. That’s why we’re showing you what you can’t miss on your archaeological tour of Menorca.
The coastal settlement of Coll de Cala Morell
The coastal settlement of Cala Corell in Menorca is an archaeological site located in Ciutadella. The site is located 35 meters above sea level and is protected by a dry stone wall. It is one of the 32 prehistoric sites in Menorca that make up the Talayotic Menorca.
In this place, which is unique in the whole island of Menorca, we can find around 12 navetas. Additionally, there are also two long stone hollows in the central settlement area, possibly created for collecting water.
In recent years, two more navetas have been excavated in the highest part of the settlement. Both facing south, which were used for domestic purposes, as suggested by the evidence found.
Furthermore, the complete absence of marine life such as fish, mollusks, or crustaceans indicates that the inhabitants of this place did not consume marine resources. This surprising fact is clear evidence that we are dealing with a Talayotic site.
The Naveta d'es Tudons
The Naveta d’es Tudons is the most remarkable megalithic monument in all the Balearic Islands.
Located near the settlement of Coll de Cala Morell, the Naveta d’es Tudons sits atop a small hill.
The tomb contains about 100 niches with their respective belongings such as bronze bracelets. It’s a fascinating experience that you shouldn’t miss!
After both visits, you can relax on the sandy shores of Ciutadella Bay and enjoy the turquoise waters while they prepare your favorite cocktail at the nearest beach bars.
